To consider the influence of relationships in home, playground and classroom on the sense of identity and learning of a student.
Select a student on whom to focus. Draw up a matrix, similar to that used by Pollard with Filer (1996), but for an appropriate period. Use records, observation and discussion to gradually complete each cell of the matrix. This may take some time and enquiry to do appropriately.
Consider your matrix as a whole. How is the student's view of his/her self influenced by others? How does his/her view of self influence the approach taken to learning? Are there any specific implications for providing for this student or overall conclusions for understanding students more generally?
