Think about Hattie’s five attributes of expert teachers (see Chapter 16 of Reflective Teaching in Further, Adult and Vocational Education).
Identify at least one experienced expert teacher in your institution and ask if you can spend some time observing one or more of their classes/workshops. As you observe, ask yourself the following questions:
Can you see one or more of these attributes in their teaching?
Ask your expert colleagues whether they would add or remove anything from Hattie’s list and why?
Use this discussion as the basis for considering your own journey from novice to expert teacher. Where would you place yourself on the novice–expert spectrum and why?
Identify up to three aspects of your practice you would like to develop further.
