When marking work, try and consciously incorporate the learning objectives/assessment criteria in your comments as this adopts Clarke’s (2001) ‘closing the gap’ principal to both formative and summative feedback and ensure that learning is made explicit.
When you are doing this, it is helpful to have your lesson objectives or criteria to hand so that you can use similar phrases that are familiar to students. You can also adopt this in your questioning and dialogue in class by referring back to lesson objectives during the session.
