To reflect upon the role of the early years practitioner and the need for specialist training.
Take some time to think about the following:
It has been argued that the role of the childcare practitioner is largely based on personal qualities, such as empathy with children, which are unrelated to qualifications and training. To what extent is this true? How does this relate to assumptions about the gender and social class of the workforce? What current campaigns are you aware of to counteract these assumptions? How does this relate to the potential removal of qualified teacher status requirements in schools? What parallels may be made with other sectors and professions?
Discuss your thoughts with a colleague.
