Think either about a child for whom you are the key person, or, if you have not held this role, ask a colleague or peer about their experience. Think about the purpose of this role. What is the potential value of this role for the child, the family and yourself? What helps practitioners to fulfil this role? For example, procedures in the setting, time to liaise with families. What challenges arise from taking on this role?
Extension
Working with a colleague consider how you build close relationships with a child and their family. Are different approaches needed with different children? If relevant how have you managed challenging situations with families, perhaps if you have had a difference of opinion.
