Identifying your own level of expertise

The following questions offer a useful first focus for identifying your own level of expertise.

  • Which aspects of the standards are you most confident about in your practice?
  • What sources of evidence are you able to provide to demonstrate this?
  • Which aspects of the standards do you need to prioritize as part of your professional development?
  • Who could help you with this development?
  • In what ways do the standards align with your institutions policy on staff promotion?
  • How might the standards assist you in preparing for promotion?

See Chapter 16 of Reflective Teaching in Further, Adult and Vocational Education for professional standards for further education teachers and trainers in England.
