2. Creating conditions for learning

Part Two concerns the creation of environments to support high-quality teaching and learning.

We begin by analysing the bigger picture in FAVE. We consider the circumstances which relate to FAVE organizations and the communities they serve (Chapter 5). We note the ways in which people contribute to and challenge such circumstances through their actions. We then move to the heart of educational activity in classrooms, workshops, work-places and other FAVE contexts, with a focus on teacher–learner relationships and engagement (Chapter 6). In Chapter 7, we suggest ‘good relationships’ and mutual respect play a central part in our endeavour to achieve the good educational practice we have outlined in Part One. Finally, we consider a range of learning spaces in FAVE organizations and beyond (Chapter 8), and what they offer. This chapter also addresses classroom organization, uses of technology and team-work.
