Challenging experiences

Think about a situation in your teaching that perplexes or challenges you. Write down an example of this and begin to identify from your understanding of this chapter what the issues are, from your own perspective, from that of your students and from the wider context. Discuss this with a colleague, or preferably a small group of colleagues who are aware of the process of reflection and who can help analyse the situation from different perspectives. Remember to think about the possible action that you can take and agree to meet again to see how the next steps affect your practice. Also try and keep a log of your thoughts and actions, as well as any reading that you do. The log doesn’t have to be a formal diary and you may want to look at some websites and blogs or engage with social networks in your own context.
