Home > Reflective Teaching in Secondary Schools > 3. Teaching for learning > 13. Assessment > Reflective Activities > To develop critical awareness of different interpretations of the term ‘Assessment for Learning'
To develop critical awareness of different interpretations of the term ‘Assessment for Learning’.
Look out for references to ‘Assessment for Learning’ or ‘AfL’ in books, policy documents, articles, etc. Read the text to develop your understanding of the meaning being attributed to the term in each case. To what extent does the interpretation match expert definitions of AfL that emphasise process, immediate use of information and learner agency?
What is the effect of any mismatch? If ‘Assessment for Learning’ and ‘Formative Assessment’ are being used synonymously, what is the impact, and does it matter?
