To deepen your understanding of the hidden curriculum operating in your setting.
Thinking about the images in your setting, what do children, families and visitors to the setting see? Who is represented? Who is absent? For instance, you could think about culture, race, identity, gender roles. What are the underlying messages represented in these images? Is the uniqueness of every child evident in how and where their work is displayed? What messages do you think the images in your setting are presenting to the children and their families?
Consider your review of the images in the setting. Discuss with a colleague whether there are images which need to be updated, whether there are other ways of representing children’s work. Discuss what the changes would be in the ‘hidden’ messages being given in the images in the setting.
