To consider how you and your staff team approach inclusion.
Consider two children: one who has a particular physical disability or emotional need and one who is from a minority group within your setting – perhaps based on race or culture. Observe these children in play. Are these children supported to access all of the opportunities in the setting? Do the other children acknowledge their needs and ‘get on with the business of the task’ or is the child excluded? How do staff approach this? Is the child identified as different and so therefore unable to participate, or are children supported to see everybody brings something to the group?
Work with a partner to plan for adopting or developing an inclusive pedagogy. This may be a process of working with staff initially. Consider the needs of the staff, children and families in your setting.
