To consider knowledge and the needs of children.
What does a 4-year-old child need to know? For example, does he need to know how to read – right now? Why might we be teaching him to read – is it because he needs this skill now or because he will need it in the future? What skills, knowledge, understanding or informed attitude does this 4-year-old need – right now? What skills, knowledge, understanding or informed attitudes will help this 4-year-old reach his full potential? If this child is becoming interested in books, does this mean he is falling behind? What or who creates this barrier to learning?
