To reflect upon what you feel the role of the early years practitioner should be.
In Reflective Teaching in Early Education we continually quote research which informs us about what ‘high quality’ early education and care involves. Take a moment to think about what you think your role ought to be. Be honest with yourself. Do you have particular views about how children should be cared for? Do you agree or disagree with expectations placed on you as a practitioner? Reflect upon the influences of your opinions. Do you think your upbringing or personal experiences impact upon your opinion? How? Do you recognize how your understandings of theory and/or research have influenced your opinions?
Identify an area which you would benefit from gaining a deeper understanding of. Identify a relevant publication and take time to read it, thinking about how this new knowledge can support your practice.
