To reflect upon the impact of practitioner views of children.

Evidence and reflection

Thinking about your own practice, do you think that you hold a fixed or growth mindset in relation to children? Do you think this changes depending on the child or their family? What impact might this have on your practice? The opportunities given to the child? Have you seen others behave in a way which suggests that they have a fixed mindset? What are the consequences of this?

Extension

Reflect on the influence you may have on the developing identities of young children. Consider how the opinions you hold of them and thus what you say and how you respond to them may have influence. Does this impact on the opportunities they have and, in turn, on the chances they have to demonstrate their knowledge and skills? Does this have consequences for assessment?
