To explore school policy and provision for learners identified as having special or additional needs, and to reflect on their implications for classroom practice.
(a) Identify those who work in, or visit, your school having particular responsibilities for supporting learners identified as having special or additional needs. (b) Make brief notes about their support role and consider how they might support your classroom practice.
Talk to one of these colleagues about their role and school policy and provision. If there is an individual learner, or group of learners, about whom you are particularly concerned, it might be especially helpful to discuss ideas about classroom practices with them in mind. For example, what changes could you make to your teaching to support their inclusion in classroom activities? What further information can you gather via specialist websites and books?
