To consider aspirations for our professional development as a teacher

Aim

To consider aspirations for our professional development as a teacher.

Evidence and reflection

Read Sally Power’s short article on the ‘Imaginative Professional’ (Reading 17.5) which draws attention to a distinction between ‘private troubles’ and ‘public issues’. To what extent are you able to identify public issues underlying particular challenges in your professional experience? Share and discuss these with colleagues.

Now consider how your personal and professional development might be facilitated, bearing in mind your circumstances. Strategically review, in other words, the possibilities for your future biography in the light of your work context and the period of history you happen to be living through.

Extension

Is there scope for becoming proactive, in seeking to contribute to policies or practices in your school, or in relation to external policies and practices? How might this be taken forward?
