How your personal biography shapes your teaching

Please consider the following questions as a way to reflect on what aspects of your own personal history may, or may not, be relevant to your current engagement with teaching:

  1. Can you recall a particularly positive encounter you had, as a student, with a teacher? What made this so positive? In what ways might this encounter help shape your own engagement as a teacher today?
  2. Can you recall a particularly negative encounter you had, as a student, with a teacher? What made this so negative? In what ways might this encounter help shape your own engagement as a teacher today?
  3. To what extent do you think students today are the same as, or different from, how you were as an undergraduate student? Consider here social, educational, cultural and any other factors.
  4. What are the risks and benefits of using your own personal biography to inform your engagement as a teacher?
