Thinking about the impact of contexts on teaching and learning practices


This activity is designed to help you to review and explore the significance of national polices and institutional, disciplinary cultures and teaching and learning contexts.

Arrange to meet with a small group of work colleagues. In preparation, share out the sections of Chapter 5 so that policies, institutional cultures, disciplinary cultures and teaching and learning cultures are each covered.

In a meeting, each sub-group should explain the issues raised in their section of the chapter, and how it relates to their own context. How, in particular, is your department or workgroup affected by these factors? What other contextual factors are particularly significant in determining the circumstances in which you teach?
