Generating evidence to improve our teaching practices


This activity focuses on how to generate evidence to make judgements about how to develop our teaching. Consider:

  1. Which aspect of your teaching practices should be investigated and why?
  2. What evidence you can generate, and how?
  3. How you can analyse, interpret and apply the findings?
  4. This may seem rather formal, but these are all things you’ll be thinking about in any situation where you are evaluating your teaching practices.

To start with, pick a small issue or dilemma and see if you can construct a plan for evidence-generating, on which you can base subsequent action. How will the evidence be different if you focus on an individual student or a whole course?
