To find out more about the financial resources of your school and compare it with others in your area.
Pick several schools in your area that will provide you with contrasting cases regarding popularity and levels of pupil enrolments. Get hold of the publicly available information about school budgets and financial resources for each. This could include the most recent Annual Governors’ Report to Parents, information from the PTA, and the LEA’s Section 52 Budget statement, sent to all schools twice yearly. Is the pattern of spending what you would expect based on your knowledge about each school? Do remember that some of this information has been carefully presented for public consumption and you may find it invites more questions about spending than it answers.
If possible get together with a colleague from one of these schools and match up your local knowledge of the schools, especially pupil intake, with the pattern of spending.
