Evidence and reflection
Consider a teaching/learning session and list the requirements which were made of selected children. This might be dome by asking a colleague to observe, or by interpreting a tape‑recording. From the perspective of each of the selected children, make a judgement of the type of motivation which you feel influenced their actions. Record your judgements. If possible, discuss the session with the children involved and record their accounts.
By comparing teacher judgements and children's accounts it should be possible to obtain many insights which could help in developing more appropriate approaches to motivating children in the future.
