With a peer or colleague, think about how you view children and whether your practice gives the impression that you view them as competent actors. In what ways do you involve them? Are there additional ways they could be included?

Extension

Consider the skills you believe the children in your care have at this point in terms of participating in decision-making processes. Think about how you will, first, provide them with opportunities to demonstrate their capabilities, and second, how you will support them to develop and practise the skills required to engage in such discussions.
